Crash Courses

As part of Data Week, The George Washington Data Sciences Department is pleased to offer a variety of courses at no cost to conference participants. These courses will take place on Wednesday, October 4th, and encompass an array of disciplines within the data world. The courses will offer the chance to work directly with professors at GW as well as other key players in the data community. These complimentary courses have limited availability, and registration is first come first served. You must be registered to attend DC DATACON on October 3rd to be eligible for the complimentary Crash Courses. Continuing Education Credits (CEC) will be available.

Supervised Machine Learning

Overview of commonly used statistical models/machine learning algorithms with an emphasis on regression and tree-based techniques deployed in R

Unsupervised Machine Learning

Presentation and examples of using Artificial Neural Networks to classify image based data

Big Data Software

Overview of contemporary big data tools including Torch, Tensorflow, and Apache Kafka

Open source tools for Data Visualization

Focus on key packages inside R and Python for data visualization and a demonstration on using D3
